Are you still waiting for a big moment?
How I dropped the “right time” beliefs and made it happen.
Is there something you’ve kind of always wanted to do, but have never accomplished?
Some common ones I hear from people include wanting to…
leave their job and work for themselves,
learn a skill they’ve always been intrigued by, like dancing or sales or public speaking,
find the love of their life, get married, travel the world.
And when you get someone talking about their unfulfilled dreams, the most common reason you’ll hear for why they haven’t done it is some variation of “It’s not the right time.”
“I’m dealing with [X] at work right now..”
“I just found out my family member has an illness..”
“I’ll do it after [X]…”
I’m sorry / proud to be the one to tell you that you will never start if you keep telling yourself these things.
But I hope you’ll keep reading, because I’m also here to reassure you that if you’re waiting for a sign that you can do this right now…
that big moment has already happened.
I want you to think back to one of the worst things you’ve ever gone through
—an experience that you believe could just destroy a person.
Maybe you lost someone who was a main character in your life story.
Maybe there was a time when you couldn’t afford to make rent.
Or maybe you got rejected or scammed or betrayed, and it set you back.
If it still hurts or pisses you off to think about it—good.
That means you need to hear this even more.
That shitty thing didn’t kill you. You’ve already beat it simply by being here today.
And sure—you might still be in the middle of dealing with that shitty thing…
but you’re dealing with it.
You’re alive and breathing and figuring it out—even though sometimes you might feel like you have no clue what you’re doing.
That is your big moment.
The instant you choose to take one tiny step forward is the big moment.
That’s the “right time” you keep waiting for.
Because, guess what?
Whatever it is you want to do—but are putting off—probably requires work.
The reason why you want it but don’t have it is probably because it lies on the other side of the wall you don’t want to climb over.
Whether your goal is to start your own business or build a body that you’re proud of or find someone to love…
that whole “I’ll do it when….” mentality is just your brain trying to avoid hard work.
Your brain is afraid of discomfort and failure, so it will try to keep you inside of your comfort zone.
Here’s how you can start actually accomplishing those things you’ve always wanted to…
Grab a fresh notebook and write down one thing that you want to accomplish.
“I want to start a side hustle so I can afford to leave my job by this day next year.”
Now, write yourself a smaller, more specific goal for 30 days from now.
“Within the next 30 days, I will choose what I’m going to commit to as my side hustle.”Block off 30 minutes every day.
If you’re serious about becoming the version of yourself that’s capable of achieving this goal, start acting like that person.
Lock it into your schedule, the same way you would a work task.
Consistency is key to building momentum, and even the tiniest steps will give you that.
In that same notebook, do a self check-in at the end of your day by answering this question:
“What did I do today to move closer to my goal?”
As we discussed in this post (which I highly recommend you skim through after this one)…asking yourself this question at the end of every day forces you to confront the progress you’re choosing NOT to make.
And before you start mentally checking out of this because it already sounds like too much work…stop and shake off those fearful little thoughts.
This literally takes two minutes at the end of your day.
That means, in total, you’re committing 32 minutes every day to becoming who you want to be.
32 out of 1,440 minutes.
That’s 0.02 of your 24-hour day.
Just do it.
It’s actually kind of terrifying to change your life.
It’s scary to pursue something that maybe no one else in your family or friend group has before.
The mistake a lot of us make is waiting for the “right time” to take that leap.
Remember, the right time will never come on its own—you create it with every small, courageous step you take.
Start today, and watch how those tiny actions build the life you've always dreamed of.
