Step 1: Work Online

We know this sounds obvious — but stick with us here.

If you want to be able to make money from anywhere, the first step is getting paid to do work that doesn’t require you to be in a specific place at a specific time.

This can be a full-time job, consulting or freelance work, or your own online business.

You could just stop here, and you’d technically be able to work while traveling more, but you’re going to run into a few issues…

…which is why steps 2, 3, & 4 are important!

Step 2: Keep Expenses Around 30%

If you’re living pay check to pay check, you probably won’t be able to travel for very long.

Remember: the goal isn’t to just travel more this year;
it’s to travel more every year—which means NOT going broke doing it.

Our essential expenses equal about 30% of our average monthly income. This includes

• rent

• electricity / water

• food

• car maintenance

• gym memberships

• software to run our business

We intentionally keep our expenses this low, so we can use some of our income to travel guilt-free!

Ex: we used to rent an office space that costed us around $900 / month, all in. We ditched that expense, set up mini offices in our apartment, and use that extra $12k to swap Canadian winters for places like this.

Now, we’re not sweating about paying two rents this Jan - Feb, because it’s still costing us a lot less than if we’d kept that non-essential expense.

Are we going to “live below our means” this way forever? Probably not.
But why can’t we live out some dreams while we work on the others?

This is how we make this lifestyle work NOW while we build our online business — and you can too.

Step 3: Do Performance-Based Work

Get paid for a result you provide, not for hours of your time.

When you get paid for a result, you have the freedom to choose when you work. Otherwise, traveling to other timezones will feel pretty limiting.

Imagine traveling to Thailand and having to work all night because you’re chained to a North American 9-5 schedule. Nope, please!

Getting paid for a result gives you the flexibility you’re looking for.

Ex: we help local businesses get customers, and we take sales calls for the program that taught us how.
Our income depends on how many sales we close, not how many hours we work.

Think about it: we all have the same 24 hours. So how do some people make $100k per month while others only make $5k?

Because the big earners don’t tie their time to making money.
Because getting paid for your time really limits you.

Find a valuable skill that solves problems for people, and sell them that result. The more you improve, the more you can charge — and the more flexibility you can have.

We worked harder in December to close more sales and ended up making 50% more than usual — so we could have the option to work a little less while in Thailand.

Step 4: Build Automatic Money Machines

Once you’ve covered the basics of making money online, keeping your expenses lower, and getting paid for your results — this is what takes it to the next level of freedom.

Imagine waking up richer than you were when you went to bed.

This is possible if you use your skills to build assets and tools that you can keep selling to people.

These are all things that you put the work in to build, and can keep earning you passive income for months (or years) to come.

Make it as valuable as you can, and sell it to the people who would benefit from it.
