Start HERE if you’re new to online business.

You’re not dumb. You just need to try!

I’m way more confident in talking to business owners now.

Tyler Maynard — I’m Just a Normal Dude Who Tried

You don’t have to be a “businessperson” to succeed in online business.

I was living in a school bus and bartending when I jumped into this — and I actually believe that gave me a huge advantage.

Bartenders have to be socially flexible. You learn how to talk to different types of people, which helped me in talking to different types of business owners.

Bartending can make good money, but it’s hands-on money. You have to physically be there and put in the hours to get paid.

If you’re making your money this way, you’re limiting yourself on how much you can earn.

I believe it’s stupid to NOT make money online.

I want to be the first financially-free person in my family, so I knew I had to do something different. I needed an opportunity. So, I joined the LMV program.

Within one month, I had my first client who paid me $1,200 per month. That one client covers my rent.

I’m not a businessperson. I’m not a speaker. I’m just a guy who tried, and I have the same potential to make as much money as anybody else. It’s just about effort.

I’m going to be the first financially-free person in my family. I know what that path looks like now.

Step-by-Step Strategy

  1. Learn how to do lead generation for tradesmen-type businesses.

  2. Search Google + Facebook for those businesses in your area.

  3. Cold call — tradesmen rely on calls for business, so it’s an effective (and cheap) way to reach them.

  4. Ask if they can handle more customers this month.

  5. If they say yes, offer to do a short free trial to send them a couple leads.

  6. Set up a call tracking number with their same area code.

  7. Use a CRM software like GHL to track ad clicks and record calls.

  8. As soon as they’ve had 1-3 quality conversations with leads, offer to keep the campaign running and continue working together on a monthly basis.

inspired idiots section break - WHY IT WORKS

People are so scared to get on the phone and talk to someone — and that’s all I did.

I left a voicemail for this roofer while searching Facebook for roofing companies in Augusta, and he called me back. I was so caught off guard and nervous that I basically just blurted out…

“Do you want marketing?”
“Not really”
“I’ll do it for free, at first.”
“Nothing’s for free.”
“This is. If you decide to pay me at the end, it’s a tip. You don’t owe me anything. I’m looking for a job, and I want to prove myself.”

See what I mean? I’m not a salesperson. I just did the work, and it worked.

If someone is willing to do a free trial, they want to pay you. They just want you to make them feel like it’s a good idea.

Especially those hard, tradesmen-type dudes — they don’t like accepting things for free.

He’s gone from a free trial, to $1,200 lead generation retainer, to now $1,800 for SEO as well.

Show that person that you need them to succeed in order for you to succeed. That’s trust. That’s powerful.

Isn’t Everyone + Their Mom Doing Digital Marketing Today?

Saturation is a myth if you really apply yourself.

Think about all the things you ever started and didn’t finish. Most people today are that way with everything they do. We start something, we struggle with getting what we want out of it, and we quit.

So if you’re actually trying your best to get something done, you’re gonna beat out most—if not all—of the competition.

Online business is really just about making people see the value in giving you their money.

This is why a free trial is a great hack, and here’s a great tip about trials: you don’t have to get someone 15 leads.
You need to get them maybe 1-3 quality conversations — and they’ll see that this isn’t an Angie’s List bullshit service.

A lot of people will actually appreciate that you’re just a normal person doing this. I’ve told my client “Hey, I’m not a huge corporation. You don’t have to call my assistant to get a hold of me. Just shoot me a text.

Stop looking for reasons on why it’s not going to work for you, and just try!

It’s inspiring to actually believe that I can make this life so much more than what I was expecting before.

How to Price Yourself

In my opinion, it seems like a no-brainer to focus on lead generation because of the return business owners get.

$1,200 felt like a lot to charge my first client, but now I actually feel like I’m undercharging for the value I bring to his business.

Since we’ve started working together, he’s closed at least two $8,000 deals and is currently working on another for a full roof replacement.

If you’ve never attempted to do something like this, it’s hard to feel confident enough to charge those kind of prices.

But as soon as you see the results of your service, and it’s actually getting your client where they’re trying to go, you’ll level up!

I also just brought on a VA who’s going to do my initial cold calls for me, now that I’ve learned how I want them done.

Even if you join a program where the path to success has been laid for you — you need to take the steps.

Landing Clients

I think there are outreach methods that just make sense for specific types of businesses.

I want to eventually focus on all types of home improvement services — roofers, electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers.

For those businesses, cold calling just makes sense. It’s old school and it’s straightforward.

But you have to realize that when you’re calling these tradespeople, you’re interrupting their busy day. Their hands might be dirty. They didn’t ask to hear from you.

I would try to be brief with that first phone call to respect their time. You can always set up a time to have a second call to explain more about how you’ll help them.

Another key lesson: you have to learn to arm wrestle a biz owner into making the decision that’s ultimately right for their business.

A lot of small business owners aren’t necessarily “businesspeople.” They know their craft, but they don’t know what’s best to grow their business. So, you have to be willing to push back on what you’re trying to do for them.

I’m not gonna tell a roofer how to put up shingles, just like he’s not going to tell me how to select keywords.

Productivity Hack to Get Sh*t Done

I believe that everything in life is a game — including business.

I can play the money game just like I’d play the restaurant server game. You choose what you play.

Whether you’re doing cold calling or another method to get clients, if you see it like a game, I think it makes it way more fun. With every move, you’re levelling up.

Learn how to do lead generation — level up.
Make 50 calls today — level up.
Land one new client this week — level up.

The more things you try, the more you’re capable of. The more you’re capable of, the more you advance in this game of business.

One Weird Wealth Habit

Be willing to suffer in order to grow.

People don’t want to expose themselves to that pain of feeling like they suck at something.

If you feel like you’re suffering now, know that you’ll level up later.

That was the biggest mindset shift for me, and it didn’t happen after I started business — it happened TO start the business.

I think about it the same way I do jiujitsu, which I’ve done for years now. I’ve learned that the only way you get better is by getting smashed.

Then one day, a new white belt comes in and you smash them.

You didn’t see the progress while you were getting destroyed — but it was happening.

People make the mistake of thinking that they’re not progressing when they’re struggling, but that’s exactly when you are! You just have to deal with it and take the next step.

inspired idiots section break - 3 TIPS

For Growing Entrepreneurs

  1. You have to fundamentally believe that you can do anything you try to do. Not anything you “set your mind to” — anything you actually try for.

  2. If you know you’re the kind of person who starts something and quits — you need to get clear on why that happens and how you’re going to NOT do that with your business.

  3. When you’re starting out and trying to learn, people will only help you so much. You have to apply yourself and actually try. No one is going to create your wealth for you.
