Let’s see if your negative brain is holding you back.

Here’s the simplest trick we’ve found.

The simplest way to actually stop being negative.

Negativity sabotages your life.
It’s like a weight pushing down on you every day, keeping you from feeling as generally awesome as you could.

And the thing is, most of us don’t even realize that we’re doing this to ourselves. Because we’ve always leaned sorted of negatively.

But if you don’t try to understand it, and become aware of the way the mind works, negativity is the biggest dream killer out there.

You could scroll social for hours finding different techniques on how to change your mindset, but this is the simplest.

It’s the tweak I made that is easy to remember, easy to stick to, and opens your mind to then make other techniques work better for you.

I call it the Thought Energy Check.

Think of yourself as always at zero.

And think of every single thought, every sentence, like it has a positive or negative energy.

Everything you think or say either has a positive energy or a negative energy.
Everything!

It either feels like it pulls you up, or it pushes you down.

A general rule of thumb here: if you think/say something about someone that you wouldn’t want them to hear, it’s probably because it’s negative.

For example:

So, practice this for 3 days (I won’t even make you commit to a week here).

Every time you think or say something, ask yourself,
“Does this thought feel more negative, or more positive?

Would I feel proud if others heard this thought?

This is what people mean when they say, “You are your own worst enemy."
WHY IT WORKS - inspired idiots

This simple practice of just looking at how many of your thoughts lean negative might really surprise you.
And it makes you become aware of your thinking patterns.

You’ll realize that you have negative thoughts every day that you weren’t even recognizing were negative!

For example: I have this vivid memory of being at a Snap Fitness about six years ago. At 5:30am, my sister and I were hitting a pre-university gym session.

This girl walked in with dark hair, tanned skinned, a bright teal sports bra and matching high-waisted leggings. She was an hour-glassed size four, and she looked like someone who works out every single day.

I remember thinking, “Okay, we get it. You’re hot” in an eye-roll way.

Thinking to that moment now, I recognize what a negative thought that was. It smells like insecurity wrapped in envy.

But I didn’t acknowledge that at the time, or what that thought revealed about me. If I’d explored that a little more, my follow-up thought might’ve sounded something like this…

Hmph, I guess I feel envious of her body because I’m not sure if I like my own right now.”

When you start just paying attention to the tone of your daily thoughts, you start questioning them a little more.

WHY THIS MATTERS - inspired idiots

When you start noticing the way your unique brain works, life begins to reveal new possibilities.

You become open to the idea that maybe the negative assumption isn’t what’s really true.

Maybe that girl wasn’t trying to show people how hot she is.
Maybe she’s really insecure and is just copying what she sees girls on Instagram wearing.
Or maybe she dresses that way for her — because she used to be twice the size and she loves showing off how far she’s come.

There are probably several possibilities here, and your mind just assumed one as the truth.

But when you start noticing your negative/positive balance, you start thinking, “Weird. I wonder why I often assume the negative thing.

Then, you can start choosing something different — something better.

For the next three days, observe your thoughts and ask yourself, “Does this thought feel more negative, or more positive?"

So, again, simply ask yourself, “Does this thought feel more negative, or more positive?

Try it for 3 days. Keep a tally in a notebook if that helps you.

Because the sooner you stop letting negativity drag on you like a 100 lb sled pull, the sooner you make huge strides.
