Are you still trying to be a solo flashlight?

This is what finding your tribe really means.

Imagine you’re walking through a dark forest, trying to find the path that leads to your dream life.

You’ve got your flashlight and you’re shining it all around, but you’re stumbling, occasionally falling down, and sometimes veering from path to path.

That sounds difficult.
It sounds lonely.
Maybe a little scary, too.

Now, imagine you’re in that scenario, but there are 100 other people in the forest — everyone walking in the same direction.

You’ve now got 100 flashlights lighting the way, and fellow explorers saying “Watch out for this pothole,” or “Guys, don’t come this way…there’s a snake here.”

You’d probably never get lost or throw your hands up and quit
because you’d have all these people around you like,
“What are you doing? We’re moving. Let’s go.”

Imagine how much more enjoyable that journey would be. Imagine how much further you’d venture just by having that support and push from other people going where you’re trying to go.

If you’re trying to create an unbelievably happy life for yourself, do you think it would be helpful to connect with people on the same mission?
I do.

inspired idiots - why this matters

Most of you reading this probably struggle—deep down—with really believing that you can actually achieve your dream life.

But that’s probably because you don’t surround yourself with people who do believe it, and are actively working on it themselves.

Let’s step back here for a second.

Did you have teachers that wrote things like “Daydreamer” or “Doesn’t pay attention” on your report cards?

Did you grow up around adults who worked all day, were out of shape and achey, and seemed to have roommate-like marriages?

Did you attend university classes or show up to work, just to find yourself looking out the window and thinking, “Am I meant for something different?”

If so, keep reading…

Everybody wants to change. We all want to be somebody different, somebody better, or, perhaps, somebody who simply becomes more self-accepting.

This single motivator is the driving force behind nearly every decision we make as human beings. Whether we’re buying lawn furniture or choosing a mate, we can’t escape it. I’m talking about the human desire to transform.

Donald Miller, Building A Story Brand

But no matter how badly we desire change, our brains constantly tell us that we can’t
…until we see someone else do it.

strategy inspired idiots

  1. Make a list of everything you want to be in life. Think of characteristics that your “ideal” self would have.

    • Examples: wealthy, fit, happily in love, full-time traveler, acclaimed writer, motivational speaker, financially-free fruit farmer.

  2. Narrow it down to your top three. Which ones feel like they’re the MOST exciting and important to you. If you achieved those three things, you’d be living your absolute best life.

  3. Open both Facebook and Skool.com immediately after, and search for groups that focus on those three topics. Put yourself in a community of people who want the same lifestyle you do.

Am I meant for something different? Am I capable of something better than this?
WHY IT WORKS - inspired idiots

As human beings, we NEED to see other people doing the thing we want to do — to know that it’s possible.

Perfect example: Before April 15, 1954, the common belief was that man was not physically capable of breaking the four-minute mile.

Roger Bannister came along on that day and broke it.
Then, 46 days later John Landy beat it.
Then, one year later, three runners broke the four-minute mile in a single race.

As of June 2022, the "four-minute barrier" has been broken by 1,755 athletes — including high school students.

How? Did Roger suddenly change the human biological ability?
No — he changed their belief about this barrier. He showed the world that it could be done.

The path to what you what becomes a lot clearer once you’ve seen others walk it.

So, now you’re on this very slow, uphill grind of building your “something different.”

Your problem isn’t that you have no idea what to do. A lot of solutions in life are pretty straightforward — we just overcomplicate them.

The problem is that you’re going at it alone. You’re a single flashlight.

Sure, you consume motivational speeches, business content, fitness videos — but you get conflicting advice from different people and it all shoots around your overwhelmed brain.

Even if you’ve got a supportive circle of family around you, they can’t relate to what you’re struggling with because they’re not going through the struggle.

If building our dream lives were easy, everyone would do it.
Therefore, those of us pursuing it often do so alone.

This is why so many successful people invest in mentors, masterminds, and paid communities.

Stop fumbling around in the dark.
Find your fellow three-goals flashlights, and start making real progress.
