Proof you’re enough: why everyone needs a positivity bank
Your proof stash for when a pep talk isn’t cutting it.
Welcome to Inspired Idiots. Today, I’m sharing a trick that’s saved me more times than I can count. I call it the “Positivity Spank Bank”—a stash of reminders I keep close, for those days when my brain insists on a “let’s doubt ourselves” theme.
If you've ever found yourself wondering “Am I really cut out for this?”—this one’s for you.👇
I didn’t dare include the word “spank” in an email subject line. But let’s be real—that’s what gives it its charm, right?
I’ve been in the “be your own boss” game for three years now, and self-doubt still drops by on the regular. You think you’ve got it handled, and then suddenly, boom, your brain goes, “But what if you don’t?”
Sound familiar?
Cue the Positivity Spank Bank (PSB)—a folder of undeniable proof that I’m not as clueless as I sometimes feel. It’s my vault of tiny wins, feedback, compliments, and achievements that remind me why I’m here.
Step 1: Create Your Bank
Start a folder on your phone, in Google Drive, or a physical journal if you’re into that. Call it something personal (and maybe a little funny) like “Proof I’m Not Trash” or “Positivity Spank Bank.” Make it yours.
Step 2: Save Only the Real Wins
This isn’t just a collection of “Good job!” notes. Save proof of those moments that make you say:
“I really needed that.”
“I did what now?”
“Wait…someone actually values my work??”
No fluff. These reminders aren’t about ego—they’re about proof. Proof that next time your brain tells you “you can’t,” you’ve got evidence that you already did. Find one of my banked items below.
Step 3: Scroll on the Low Days
On those days when self-doubt has you questioning everything, open the bank. Let your past wins do the talking when a pep talk isn’t cutting it.
Bye-bye, Negativity Bias
You know how criticism sticks but compliments slide off? The PSB changes that. You’re training yourself to actually see the good stuff and remember it.
Finding Strength Patterns
Once you start saving, you’ll see some themes. For me, it’s the feedback about my writing and coaching. For you, maybe it’s little wins at work or kind words from friends.
Quick Confidence Boost
Sometimes all it takes is a five-minute scroll through the PSB to remind yourself of the reasons you’re doing this in the first place.
When Rejection Stings
Just got that dreaded “no”? Flip back to that moment someone praised your work. Remember, this isn’t the first time you’ve proven yourself wrong.
A Rough Parenting Day
Lost your cool? Go find that little love note your kid left, the one that says you’re the best mom or dad ever. One tough moment doesn’t cancel out the million ways you show up.
Business Setback
Have you had a rough month? Revisit the messages from people who’ve found value in what you do. That mountain you’re climbing? You’re already so far up from where you once were.
The PSB isn’t about inflating your ego. It’s a way to see, over and over, that self-doubt is temporary. You’re capable of more than you realize, and the proof is right there, waiting for you to remember it.
So keep adding to your bank. Over time, those down days start to lose their grip.
